Lustrous Lacquered Dial

A lacquered dial is a sophisticated and visually captivating feature in watchmaking, offering a high-gloss finish that resembles the appearance of enamel dials, commonly found in high-end timepieces. However, unlike enamel, which involves fusing powdered glass onto a metal base at high temperatures, lacquered dials are created using a different, yet meticulous, process.

To produce a lacquered dial, several thin layers of lacquer (or enamel paint) are spray-painted evenly onto a brass base dial. These layers are then fired at high temperatures in a kiln, much like the process used for enamel dials. This curing process ensures the lacquer sets evenly, creating a smooth, flawless surface.

Once the firing is complete, each dial undergoes a stringent quality control process. Any dial with imperfections, such as uneven surfaces or blemishes, is discarded to maintain the highest standard. While lacquered dials have a lower failure rate compared to enamel dials, this careful inspection guarantees their exceptional quality.

The Voyager Worldtimer GMT features a meticulously crafted bi-directional bezel, designed for optimal functionality and global utility. Engraved with 24 cities, each representing a different time zone. Daylight saving time is also accounted for, with a helpful arrow next to the city to indicate the adjustment.

The bezel combines two distinct materials – the outer city ring is crafted from ceramic, engraved with precision and filled with Super-LumiNova for glowing readability in low light. The inner city ring is engraved on stainless steel, adding contrast to the design.

At the Kuala Lumpur location, where Alcadus Watches is proudly based, the lume pip marks the city’s position on the bezel, offering both a functional and symbolic feature for the wearer.
